REPAIR OR REPLACE
Why Choose Us
REPAIR FIRST. REPLACE ONLY WHEN IT'S TIME.
A jammed disposal isn't a dead disposal. We try the small fix first, and swap the unit only when the motor is actually done.
Jams & seized motors
Silverware, avocado pits, chicken bones. We free the flywheel, reset the motor, and get you running the same visit if we can.
Same-visit replacements
Insinkerator, Waste King, Moen. We keep 1/2, 3/4, and 1 HP units on the truck so a dead disposal doesn't mean a second appointment.
Leaks at the flange or drain
Most disposal leaks aren't the disposal, they're the sink flange plumber's putty or a loose drain slip nut. We chase the actual source, not the obvious one.
Sized right for your kitchen
A 1/3 HP disposal in a family kitchen is a jam waiting to happen. We size horsepower and grind stage for how you actually cook.

WHAT MOST HIGHLAND HOMEOWNERS GET WRONG ABOUT GARBAGE DISPOSALS
Garbage disposals are one of those appliances nobody thinks about until the sink is full of water and the switch just makes a humming noise. Then it's a full-on kitchen crisis. The good news is that most disposal problems in Highland aren't the kind that need a new unit. About half the calls we run for garbage disposal repair in Highland end up being a jam, a tripped breaker, or a bad connection at the switch, none of which require replacing the disposal at all.
The classic mistake is flipping the switch over and over when the unit is humming. That hum means power is getting to the motor but the flywheel is stuck. Every second you hold that switch, you're overheating the windings. On the bottom of every Insinkerator and most Waste King models, there's a small hex slot. A quarter-inch allen key in that slot lets you manually turn the flywheel and pop the jam free. Then hit the red reset button on the bottom, and 9 times out of 10, you're back in business.
The other thing folks in the Inland Empire underestimate is horsepower. A 1/3 HP disposal was fine in a 1980s Highland tract home cooking hot dogs and canned corn. It is not fine in a modern kitchen where somebody's cooking real meals, running fibrous vegetables and citrus peels through it. Our hard water, right around 17 grains per gallon, also builds scale on the grind ring, which makes an underpowered disposal jam even faster. If you're already replacing yours, spend the extra $80 for a 3/4 or 1 HP unit. You'll get double the life out of it.
A homeowner in East Highlands Ranch had us out last month for a "broken" disposal that was actually a leaking sink flange. The plumber's putty around the top of the disposal had dried out and cracked over about 12 years, and water was running down the outside of the unit and pooling in the cabinet. She thought the whole thing was shot. Twenty minutes of resealing the flange later, no more leak. Total cost was less than dinner for two.
One thing worth knowing: California code requires an air gap on the dishwasher drain that ties into your disposal. If yours doesn't have one, it should. Bad backflow into the dishwasher is one of those hidden problems nobody thinks about until they're washing dishes in dirty water. When we replace a disposal, we check that setup every time and fix it if it's wrong.

01My disposal just hums but won't spin. What's wrong?
My disposal just hums but won't spin. What's wrong?
Almost always a jam. There's a hex slot on the bottom of the unit that lets you crank the flywheel loose with an allen key. If that doesn't free it, the motor may be seized. Either way, don't keep hitting the switch, it can burn the motor out.
02The reset button popped and won't stay in. Is it dead?
The reset button popped and won't stay in. Is it dead?
Not necessarily. The reset trips when the motor overheats or draws too much current. Let it cool for 15 minutes, clear any jam, and try again. If it pops right back out, the motor is done and it's replacement time.
03How long does a garbage disposal last?
How long does a garbage disposal last?
Cheap 1/3 HP units run about 5 to 7 years in a family kitchen. A well-built 3/4 or 1 HP disposal can go 12 to 15. Highland's hard water shortens that a little because of scale buildup on the grind ring.
04Is it leaking from the disposal itself or somewhere else?
Is it leaking from the disposal itself or somewhere else?
Leaks from the top usually mean the sink flange putty has failed. Leaks from the side are the dishwasher inlet or drain outlet gasket. Leaks straight from the bottom of the housing mean the internal seal is shot and the unit is done. We diagnose which one it is before we quote.
05What size disposal do I need?
What size disposal do I need?
For a household of 1 to 2 people, a 1/2 HP is fine. Families of 3 to 5 should be on a 3/4 HP. If you cook a lot or run a big kitchen, 1 HP is worth the extra money because it clogs less and lasts longer.
06Can you install one I already bought?
Can you install one I already bought?
Yes, no problem. We install any brand or model you supply, and we'll check it before we start. We just recommend against the very cheap 1/3 HP models, they don't hold up in Highland water.
