Anyone who's actually worked under Rialto sinks for a while will tell you it's basically two cities. There's the old Rialto south of the 10, full of 1950s and 1960s ranch homes built when Foothill Blvd was the main drag of everything. And there's the newer Rialto north of the 210, where the tracts went up in waves through the 90s and 2000s, all the way up to the Renaissance Marketplace area. The plumbing problems are completely different.

South Rialto's older homes were built with cast iron drains and galvanized supply, and most of it is now somewhere past its expected service life. The galvanized has narrowed from the inside, so pressure at the shower head feels like a dribble. The cast iron drains are usually fine for another few years, but the cleanouts are often buried or paved over. When something does back up, our first call is for a scope. We've pulled some genuinely ugly stuff out of South Rialto sewer laterals, mostly roots from old fruit trees and one memorable plumber's snake somebody left behind in 1978.

North Rialto's tracts are a different animal. Big chunks of 80s and early-90s builds went in with polybutylene supply line, which was the cheap-and-fast option until the lawsuits hit. Poly fails without warning. You'll be sitting watching TV and a quarter-sized leak inside a laundry wall turns into a six-figure insurance claim by morning. If your house was built between 1978 and about 1995 and you don't know what's in the walls, take 30 seconds and check at the water heater, the shut-off, or under a sink. If it's grey or grey-blue plastic, plan the repipe before the pipe plans it for you.

The slab tracts past the 210 add another wrinkle. Copper run through concrete, moderately hard West Valley Water District water, and 20-plus years of pressure cycling means slab leaks. We pinpoint with thermal cameras and listening discs, then we cut a small section of slab instead of opening the whole floor. Most of those repairs are done same-day once we find the leak.
